GALLERY ONE – HIGHLAND LIGHT

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My visit to the Scottish Highlands was well overdue. My subject matter was found on the West Coast of Scotland and the Isle of Skye, starting with the unspoilt landscape of Argyll dotted with quiet inns and hamlets, the headland at Keills Peninsula with views over the Paps of Jura... unusual and impressive rocks silhouetted like gravestones against the light on the water.

The majestic, dark and emotive mountains of Torridon in Wester Ross, are some of the oldest on the planet and for me, really capture the essence of Scotland, together with the remote Shieldaig and Applecross peninsulas.

My first visit to the Isle of Skye was enthralling. The changing weather conditions created subject matter full of mood and atmosphere Here the landscape is captivating with breathtaking views and changing light.

I came away with a wealth of material for painting, with over 100 sketches that I know, for many years will be a great source of inspiration.
