Carole's workshops are aimed at people who want to 'loosen up' and be freer. Carole paints in such a way as to draw the viewer in, to let them decipher certain elements, and therefore, lots of detail need not be laboured over.... just a suggestion of what is there is often all that is needed, making the finished work more exciting, evocative and bold.

'painting en plein air'

...NORTH EAST HIGHLANDS
Dates: SUNDAY 19 - FRIDAY 24 MAY 2013

North of Aviemore in the North East of Scotland is the beautiful area of Speyside, lying on the River Spey and close to Ballindalloch Castle. The area stretches from Aviemore in the south to Buckie in the North – a walk known as the Speyside Walk takes you along a 65 mile route.

Situated in the heart of the Ballindalloch Estate on the north side of the A95 between Grantown on Spey and Aberlour is The Old School House – privately owned, the space will provide a ‘dry’ haven in which to work and a place to meet. The village of Aberlour (famous for Walkers biscuits and Aberlour Single malt whiskey) is 5 miles away. It is situated on the whiskey trail with numerous distilleries open for tours. There are lots of interesting places within 5-15 minutes and the coasts of Spey Bay and Lossiemouth are approximately 30 minutes away.

This 6-day painting holiday has been designed to encourage students to pant ‘en plein air’ either in the form of sketches or finished works in watercolour or mixed media and acrylics. You will be gathering source material in the form of sketches, photographs and written notes.

You will need to be fit and active as there will be lots of walking and be prepared for all weather conditions – so some good walking boots and waterproofs are essential. However, should the weather be so bad, we will work indoors and concentrate on techniques in acrylics and mixed media.

There will be a free day on Wednesday to spend as you like – maybe explore some of the many distilleries in the area, go walking and exploring or simply relax.
The price includes all tuition, a packed or buffet lunch and refreshments each day other than the free day – Wednesday.
