'Painting With Feeling' at Grasmere, Lake District with Carole Baker RBSA - 2-6 June 2025
The Venue: Glenthorne Guest House (Quaker)
Glenthorne is a Victorian Country House set in its own gardens in one of the most beautiful and peaceful locations in Grasmere in the heart of the English Lake District.
The property comprises the Main House built in 1834 and an annex, Bankside (formerly the stables for Wordsworth’s Allan Bank) situated in the grounds.
Most of the 26 bedrooms are en-suite and many boast splendid views of the surrounding fells.
There is a comfortable lounge and garden room, normally available to guests throughout the day and a function / studio room available.
Two minutes walk from Glenthorne, Grasmere has a general store, newsagents, chemist and post office, many quality gift and book shops, a garden centre, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants.
Grasmere church, Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount, are open to the public interested in Wordsworth and his life in the lakes and are only a short distance from Glenthorne. Walks, both relaxing and more arduous, are numerous and start from right outside the front door.
There is a choice of comfortable SINGLE or DOUBLE ensuite bedrooms.
The group will be limited to just 10 people ensuring Carole gives everyone individual attention – early booking is recommended.
The holiday will consist of some plein air watercolour painting, gathering source material in the form of sketches, photographs and turning the sketches into finished paintings in the studio. We will sketch in watercolours and pen and produced finished paintings in acrylics and mixed media.
You will need to be fit and active as there will be some walking required.
The programme for the course will include the following –
– Friendly and individual tuition
– Working with like-minded people
– Demonstrations in a variety of techniques and mediums
– Compositional and colour planning
– A critique of students sketchbooks and finished paintings
– Ideal if you would like to find fresh ideas and direction
